The 3oz Quick Shot is a customer favorite. With the accelerated "FAST" wicking speed it will add a nice quick yet safe shot of moisture within several minutes. It's compact plug and play size makes it a favorite for existing colonies and you can move it around until you dial things in the exact way you want. Need a larger quick Shot? Try the 4oz or 6oz sizes, which are also great for shorter bin sizes.
On average it may take a couple weeks of monitoring after the initial set-up to determine how often to refill the reservoir for your particular set-up in order to maintain the desired gradient. The Quick Shot options are designed to release water quickly, but are still extremely safe and very effective.
Parameters such as bin size, wicking speed, air flow, ambient temps+humidity, soil density+depth, layers of leaf litter, mosses and hides will all play a role in evaporation rates and will determine how long they will last and need to be refilled.
Only use RO (Reverse Osmosis) or distilled water only. Failure to do so will slowly cause the wicking material to clog.
How do they work? Think of your soil as a paper towel touching the edge of a puddle of water. The paper towel will wick up the water and you’d actually be able to watch it slowly travel up the towel. Now apply the same process to a Pod-Wick and soil and that is how wicking works. The more water you add, the further it will wick, so you’ll want to keep that in mind when considering what moisture gradient you want to achieve..
