 Wicking Speed Options

• Our standard release model can offer from 2 to several days of consistent moisture delivery. This moisture gradient will last anywhere from 1-2 weeks after the reservoir is empty and in some cases much longer. 

• We also offer this model with the accelerated wicking speed as well. This selection will guarantee a quicker, yet still gentle infusion of moisture with the same results as a slower release.

On average it may take a couple weeks of monitoring after the initial set-up to determine how often to refill the reservoir in order to maintain the desired gradient for your particular set-up. The overall goal is to achieve a safe and stress free moisture gradient. The extended life of the moisture gradient after the container empties is far more important than how long the water lasts in the reservoir. A full solid gradient can last up to 2 weeks or longer.

Parameters such as bin size, wicking speed, air flow, ambient temps+humidity, soil density+depth, layers of leaf litter, mosses and hides will all play a role in evaporation rates and will determine how long they will last and need to be refilled. 

Only use RO (Reverse Osmosis) or distilled water only

How do they work? Think of your soil as a paper towel touching the edge of a puddle of water. The paper towel will wick up the water and you’d actually be able to watch it slowly travel up the towel. Now apply the same process to a Pod-Wick and soil and that is how wicking works. The more water you add, the further it will wick, so you’ll want to keep that in mind when considering what moisture gradient you want to achieve..
